Dreaming of a vacation to tropical Costa Rica? In recent times, the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica has been featured in vacation magazines and books as the newest "affordable Hawaii" and no Costa Rican vacation can be complete without a thrilling deep sea fishing adventure aboard the brand new, custom built, 36-foot Dream Work, skippered by trophy fish winning Tom Carton.
Known to Herradura Bay locals and Jaco visitors alike as simply "Captain Tom" Tom began the first charter fishing business in the Herradura Bay-Jaco area now known as Los Suenos Resort Marina more than 20 years ago. Since that time, Captain Tom has distinguished himself as the premier sportfishing captain on the Costa Rica Central Pacific Coast by winning award after award from many of the major sportfishing organizations in existence, including the INTERNATIONAL GAME FISHING ASSOCIATION.
Tom made history among deep sea fishermen when he broke an 80 year-old record for landing the largest – 229 pound - sailfish in the world. Captain Tom has been written up in countless sport magazines and tourism books . The sources of these accolades include SPORTS AFIELD, MARLIN, SALTWATER FISHERMAN, and FLORIDA OUTDOORS magazines.
Bruce Morris, author of the periodical tourism book, "Costa Rica Alive,"says of Captain Tom, "He is well known to be one of the most successful captains on the coast… His hit rate pushes 100 percent. He fishes with circle hooks, which makes for healthy releases… Directly offshore from the marina are some of the very best fishing grounds in Central America. The morning I went with him we caught and released 15 sails, a dorado and a marlin all before lunch."
Morris advises "Book as early as you can, since he is a popular captain."
It´s in his blood
Captain Tom began his fishing career in early childhood winning just about every junior and adult fishing competition his home region on the East Coast had to offer. He decided to make his home in Costa Rica more than 20 years ago specifically for the, rich and abundant big game fishing opportunities along the Central Pacific coastline. That decisión was made that much easier after he hooked his first 750 pound Marlin while trolling with bait fish from a 15-foot skiff.
´´The fishing here was so amazing and still is today - a real untapped resource. I just couldn´t leave.´´
You will know the feeling the first time Captain Tom´s crew shout those two magical words,
While he has built and owned a number of boats over the years, Tom´s latest venture was named for his passion. The newly completed "Dream Work."
